Sometimes I kinda like my stuff

Latest scratchings on the drawing board:

I saw an image like this come by on Twitter with some pulp magazine or comics covers, I forget which. I liked the movement and energy in it, and even though I had only seen it in passing, I thought I'd try to re-create it.

I am pretty satisfied with  it - and Coco said that she really felt the space, and the movement of the bodies, and the tilt of the deck.

So, maybe moving the needle an inch forward...

Sometime I just hate my stuff...

Practice pages from one of my workbooks the other night:

So lifeless... no energy. Not sure how to break through this.

Quiet Sunday Morning

That's the name of the sketch, not when I did it.

I finished this one over the course of three or four sessions...I wanted to attempt something with a lot details and fiddly bits. Trying to do longer and more complicated pieces and still keep the freedom on the line.

Exercise 10.24.21

So,I tried a different art exercise book tonight -- this one is all about figure drawing. Don't know why I put it down...anyway, here's tonight's face:

That was freehand, but the book has lots of guideline templates to get you started, like this (also from tonight):

Here's a bunch of earlier sketches from this section of the book:

Exercise 10.22.21

I have a couple a books of art exercises, a one-a-day kind of thing. I am relatively consistent with them, but I am often not sure of the point. Here's today's:

I mean, it's fun and all, and I guess it inspires creativity in a general way, but it's not really practicing technique... and that's what I need (want?) most. (Check this out, towards the end.)

Meditation Well

In my continuing efforts to draw every day and break though the inner critic so I can improve, here's another quick non-judgemental sketch to keep the juice flowing.

Blogging POV

So, the initial phase of the Postcard Project is completed - all those who sent me their snail mail addresses when I asked have received a card and all the cards have been posted here. There's still several postcards left in the pack and I still have a few postcard stamps, so there will likely be a few one-offs in the future. We shall see.

In the meantime, I am continuing to try to Do Art more regularly. Here's today's effort - I was inspired to try to recreate the point of view I so often had ten or fifteen years ago when I was blogging regularly.

As I went sketching merrily along, I tried to experiment with some perspective and with controlling the line weight using my Copic 110 marker brush. Not terribly happy with either.

Postcard Project #1

So recently I sent a mass text out to peeps asking them to update their snail mail address. When the results came rolling in, I decided to launch a project that had been sitting idle for some time:

Somewhere along the line I had picked up this item and it is just what it says on the tin: a packet of 30 postcards, the completion of which requires drawing 642 different things - a different number of things on each card, not 21.4 things on each card. Well, I am doing one a day, so follow along and you'll see how it works. I am mailing these out to my friends in the order they responded to the request for addresses, so I am delaying each one a few days to allow for mailing time.
