So, what with the recent news, I have made a commitment to using my downtime fulfillingly and productively, rather than just doomscrolling the twitters. As soon as I had withdrawn from the Torts III course, I cleared my second desk of law stuff and returned it to its original condition as a drawing space, and the first night I did not have a class, I sat down and made this sketch.

You get the picture.*

Just enough to break the rust off. Hopefully, more soon.

*See what I did there?

It's my party...

... my D&D party, that is.

The DM rebooted our campaign and we all rolled up new characters.

Morose moose

Pandemic blues?

At your serviette

So, I had lunch with Coco and my in-laws today. As we were chatting, I was making a few doodles on a napkin, which drawings seemed to please everyone -- my modicum of ability (let's not call it talent) was somewhat disproportionately praised. Coco even took pictures of the sketches, so I decided to post them here. Why not.

A fox. A fat fox?

A space man. I think the helmet is shaped the way it is because they are also a dog-man.

A space-dog-man.

Lunch was great, by the way. Happy birthday, Annis P.

So, for the past couple of months I have been taking a community ed drawing class: ten two-hour Monday sessions. Mostly it was technique exercises, but it was good just to be putting pencil to paper regularly. Hanging out with other draw-ers was pretty fun, too, and the instructor was a hoot and a half. Anyway, here's a selection of some stuff that was interesting enough to post.

(Sorry about scan quality.)

We spent some time on perspective drawing.

 An eyeball

We did some gestural drawing, sketches from life in three or four minutes.

Another gestural - perhaps my favorite work of the class.

Profile, from a photo.

My Doc Martens brogue - our first drawing of the class, actually.

Some composition exercises - the only time we used color.

A swimmer - from a photo in a 20 minutes.

Self-portrait of the artist as a not-so-young man.

On my way to getting out those 10,000 bad drawings.

El Veepo

When I first became a dean, Coco started calling me Deano. In this new role, she tried Veep, but that didn't work for her, so she tried Veepo. A friend modified it to El Veepo, which sounded to me like a luchador...

Just a few quickies.
